Itinerary

Day 1Bagan

Join Sanctuary Ananda and settle into your suite in time for lunch (guests arriving on earlier flights can enjoy optional tours to Minanthu weavers’ village, Myinkaba Village and a jaggery workshop).

In the afternoon, travel to Bagan by coach to visit some of the most important temples and pagodas among the 2,000 which comprise this most magnificent archaeological site – the Ananda, the Htilominlo and the Pyathatgyi. Finally, enjoy the sunset from the latter, where the sun sets behind the hills on the far side of the Ayeyarwady, filling the sky with a reddish glow.

Day 2Bagan

Choose one of two early morning optional excursions – a balloon ride over Bagan (additional charge) or sunrise meditation at one of the temples. Otherwise, after breakfast visit the bustling local market of Nyaung Market, followed by the sacred Buddhist Shwezigon Pagoda. The pagoda houses a bone and tooth of the Gautama Buddha and the Gubyaukgyi Temple. Visit the lacquerware workshops of Myinkaba before returning to the ship to sail northwards towards Sagaing.

A choice of lectures and demonstrations are on offer during the afternoon or simply relax on board. In the evening, enjoy sandbank sunset cocktails followed by dinner.

Day 3Mandalay

Breakfast at leisure or enjoy early morning meditation or yoga classes on board as the ship sails towards Ava, the ancient imperial capital for five centuries. After lunch visit the monasteries and pagodas of Bagaya, Sagaing and Amarapura by horse and cart or coach. Take time to visit local silversmiths and textile workshops before heading to the U Bein Bridge for drinks at sunset.

Enjoy the farewell dinner on the sandbank overlooking Mingun, followed by a traditional musical performance.

Day 4Mandalay

For those who wish, an early morning visit to the village of Sin Kyun is offered. This wonderful community will show you the typical life of the villagers and see a way of life seldom viewed by outsiders.

Arrive in Mandalay and disembark. For those leaving on a later flight we can arrange a tour of Mandalay, including visits to Mahamuni Pagoda, Shwenandaw Monastery and Kuthodaw Pagoda.
